Most civil construction works end up causing impacts on nature. After all, several inputs are used, which generate debris at the end of the process. Chemicals can also be present in construction, increasing this potential for pollution. However, there are always options to reduce part of the impacts. This is the case with ecological bricks, which are very interesting to nature.

The ecological brick is a material produced by mixing water, cement and earth. The soil used is sandy, and can basically be removed from anywhere. This eliminates the need to use materials from the permanent preservation area. As is the case with clay, found in water sources.

Its composition may also include coconut fibers or sugarcane bagasse, which would be discarded by the agribusiness. As with other construction waste.

This is the first ecological feature of the resource. By reusing products that would be discarded in nature, it lessens the impact on it.

Another care for the environment is in its manufacturing process. It is carried out by pressing, a technique that does not eliminate polluting gases in the air. Other types of bricks, on the other hand, are baked in an oven, releasing gases. In this case, they still consume wood, which can be preserved with the ecological.

The residues generated in this process can be used in other bricks, reducing the leftovers that the material could create. Keep following and discover more about the ecological brick!

Ecological brick what is it?

Ecological bricks can be found on the market in different formats and types. As for the format, it is possible to mention three main ones: the modular, in a rectangle shape; the half brick, smaller; and the channel, composed only of edges and a large space between them.

Generally, the channel brick is used as a lintel or counter-frame for doors and windows. That is, as small beams for the distribution of loads of these structures. Ducts also work well for the passage of the electrical and hydraulic installation of a property.

The types of the brick, on the other hand, are related to how they are fixed. The consumer can find, for example, the one that has mortar fitting. There are those that have a fitting system, and those that can be fixed with PVA glue and polymeric mortar.

All of these specifications are defined in Brazil by the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT). The entity even regulates the quality of each brick, since they need to be safe and durable. If they are not, the parts may have to be replaced in a short time. In addition to requiring new expenses, then, they will lose their ecological aspect. After all, if the exchange is necessary, waste will be created, increasing the environmental impact.

A poorly modulated part, for example, can break. Even during handling during construction. Thus, there would be waste, waste and, of course, over-spending. Therefore, before purchasing the material, assess whether the brand offers products studied by the National System of Technical Approvals (Sinat). The evaluation indicates the performance of the brick, its degree of toxicity, thermoacoustic capacity and others.

How to make ecological brick?

The production of ecological bricks is usually done by specialized factories. This is because companies are able to carry out greater quality control of the result, ensuring safety and quality. However, it is also possible to produce the parts at the construction site. In this case, all you need is a professional specialized in the subject. He will know the measurements and the correct method of production.

Starting production, the professional will choose the soil to be used. Any type of soil can be used for the production of ecological bricks. However, the most beneficial is the sandy soil. It usually has about 60% to 80% sand, and 20% to 40% clay. The characteristics improve the material’s ability to absorb moisture.

Once the soil has been chosen, it must be prepared. If it has clods, that is, hard and dry parts, the soil should be crushed. There is a specific machine for this step, which can optimize the process time.

Then, it may be necessary to sieve the soil. This is done in situations where the soil has leaves, branches, stones or dirt. The crushed and sieved soil should then be mixed with the cement. The average common proportion is 10% to 15% cement in the mixture. In any case, the proportions may vary according to the type of soil and the amount of bricks to be produced.

Straw, cane bagasse or similar ingredients can also be added. Then, it is necessary to humidify the mixture, adding water gradually. This will prevent the product from getting too wet, which would require more portions of the other ingredients.

To check the correct humidity, you just need to put your hands on the dough, in an energetic way. If clear relief is formed in the mixture, showing the fingerprint. It will be ready for drying.

Step by step manual production

We will better specify the brick production process at the construction site. First, you need to spread the soil on a smooth surface. It must be impermeable, and the soil must form between 20 cm and 30 cm thick.

Soon after, it is necessary to add the cement. For this beginning, it is interesting to maintain the proportion of 15% cement in the compost. If it is not enough, you can add a little more later. Soil and cement must be mixed so that the color becomes uniform.

When humidifying the solids, the water should be inserted gradually. For this, it is possible to use a watering can, or water hose. Mix again, until obtaining the ideal consistency, mentioned above.

Then, the compost must have created lumps. Thus, it is interesting to crush it, so that it has greater modeling capacity. Finally, the mixture must be inserted into a brick-making machine. In the equipment, the product will be compacted and dried.

Advantages of Ecological Brick

There are many advantages of ecological brick. Undoubtedly, the main one is sustainability. As already mentioned, the material does not require the use of the oven for production. This eliminates the emission of polluting gases into the air. In addition, it does not create a lot of waste, reducing the environmental impact of the material.

As the blocks are very easy to fit, they make construction faster. Especially if compared to the use of masonry bricks, more common in the works. The ecological brick structure is even more resistant.

At the same time, this type of material has excellent thermoacoustic capacity. This means that the room temperature is always pleasant: in winter, it remains warmer; in summer, it gets colder. Thus, staying indoors is cozy even if the temperature is extreme.

Its acoustic characteristic prevents sounds from entering or escaping in too much of the property. This makes it an ideal option for commercial rooms and buildings. After all, in these places the walls act as partitions between neighbors.

Visual and economy

Visually, the brick is equally interesting. More “delicate” than masonry pieces, the option allows you to easily decorate any environment. That is, it is not really necessary to cover the wall with plaster, cement or others. The exposed finish of the bricks creates a cozy, or even rustic, look in the room.

There is also the incredible savings that the pieces provide. Each piece of ecological brick is more expensive than masonry or concrete blocks. The savings, however, are realized due to the little use of “bonding” materials. Like nails, wood, mortar and others. After all, the ecological brick is easy to fit. Read more about Alvenaria Industrial

Another aspect considered for the economy are the electrical and hydraulic installations of the property. As there is the option of channel bricks, pipes and electrical installation can be inserted into the existing hole. Thus, it is not necessary to break the wall for the installation of these important structures. In the end, the savings compared to traditional work can reach 40%!

In relation to prices, the ecological brick is more affordable than the traditional one, which can represent savings of up to 40%. The savings in terms of the amount of use of bricks are also great. Generally, more or less 50% less ecological bricks are used than masonry or concrete bricks, in a “common” construction. This is because the masonry brick has a size corresponding to half of an ecological piece.

Disadvantages of ecological brick

Despite all these advantages, the ecological brick has two drawbacks. The first is in your installation. To perform it, the professional must know the material well, including its technical standards. This means that not all masons can handle it.

Another problem to be considered is the humidity of the building environment. When the climate of the place is humid, the bricks are not the most suitable. After all, they tend to retain moisture and can hinder both construction and building maintenance.

Houses made

Houses made of ecological brick usually have a great look. This is because the pieces can become apparent, creating a cozy or rustic look, depending on the brick color chosen. However, if you wish, you can also plaster the walls, maintaining the finish of “ordinary” properties.

First, you can use plaster. The alternative is the cheapest and works quite well for later painting. Second, you can opt for a minimum plastering, of approximately five millimeters. Painting can also be done here.

In the case of ceramic tiles, the squares must be laid directly on the bricks. The positioning of the tiles can take place by means of cement or glue.

It is important to note, however, that the ecological brick has no structural function. The stability of the building must be made by means of columns and mooring straps. The resources are distributed along the walls, forming a kind of reinforced concrete structure.

The columns are embedded within the holes of the bricks. They are positioned at fixed intervals, usually one meter each, or according to the structural design. At the corners and meeting of the walls, the columns appear tied by clamps. The glues and resins used in the entire process must be analyzed by the FISP (Chemical Product Safety Information Sheet). The data is provided by the manufacturer and guarantees the health of the professional who is using the material.

Dimensions of the Ecological Brick

https://www.totalconstrucao.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Tijolo-Ecolo%CC%81gico-prec%CC%A7o.jpg

The measurements of ecological bricks may vary according to the shape of the pieces. The most common, however, is the modular, rectangular, which works to erect the walls. These have standard measurements of 25 cm in length, 12.5 cm in height, and 7 cm in depth. Each brick still weighs about 3.2 kg. Per square meter of construction, 57 bricks are commonly needed.

All of these measures are used to establish the construction project. After all, it is essential to have good planning of your property. It is he who will define the materials and quantities necessary for the erection of the walls, electrical and hydraulic installations, foundation and more.

In addition, the person responsible for the project must pay attention to the retraction and expansion of the brick. The changes occur due to climate change and can create cracks and cracks. In this case, it is essential to carry out the construction keeping about 1.5 millimeters between each part. Thus, climate change will not “push” one brick against the other, creating exaggerated pressure.

Door and window spans still need to be calculated as multiples of the brick length. This makes positioning a lot easier.

Ecological brick Price

The price of ecological brick varies according to the region of the country. You can find it, for an average price of R $ 0.63 to R $ 1.00. The price of the millet, however, is usually lower, as the consumer usually gets a discount at the time of purchase.

Therefore, it is important to know exactly the amount of bricks that will be used in the work. It is also important to buy a small amount more than expected, in case of breakage or waste. The quantity can be better defined by the engineer or architect of your work.

Remember to always consult your architect, even before construction begins. He will be responsible for planning the entire work, and assist you when purchasing the necessary materials.
